Band: Skeleton Birth
Titel: War Diary
Label: Grinding Records

Swedish thrash has been on the rise in recent years and yet the genre does not seem to have reached its limits. “War Diary” is SKELETON BIRTHs debut works and builds lyrically on the singer and guitarist Morgan Frööjds experiences in war-torn Afghanistan. War is, of course, not a revolutionary choices of subject within thrash, but it sounds like the words really mean something and it gives energy to the music. The most obvious influences I hear comes from Exodus and Slayer, but also ” fresher ” bands such as LAMB OF GOD and PANTERA seems to have made an impression on the song writing. The Rhythm reminds me furthermore of MESHUGGAH .
Riff -wise it is, as it should be, a veritable smörsgåsbord that is served. I promise, the air guitar is going warm from the first to the last second! However, I sometime miss some punch in between. The songs tend to stay about the same pace through the disc, which ultimately becomes somewhat monotonous. However, my personal favourite “Democracy by Firepower” offers significant mangle!
Otherwise, the production is professional, driving flawlessly and the “Hetfield like” song fits like a glove. This might in other words get really, really good in the future! Worth mentioning is also a guest appearance by Pär Hulkoff (RAUBTIER) who puts the guitar on fire on the final pearl “War Will Always Prevail”. Here I recognize the Pär who once let loose oh so brilliant guitar bombardments in ENDOMORPH and VIPERINE ! In all an awesome song!
